WHAT IS LASIK?
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a type of refractive laser eye surgery performed by ophthalmologists for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
LASIK works by reshaping the cornea so that it is focusing onto the retina without the use of glasses or contact lenses.
A thin flap of epithelium and superficial cornea is created exposing a central area of deeper cornea. A UV laser removes corneal tissue from the deeper surface in the central area. The flap is repositioned and allowed to naturally adhere.
